GIS Debunks Social Media Post

The Management of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has denied a social media post which claims that its officers in so-called National Democratic Congress (NDC) strongholds have deserted their posts. This, according to the social media post, is to enable “the EC to undermine the limited voter registration currently going on across the country.”
“The Management of the GIS strongly refutes this baseless and unfounded allegation attributed to one James Agbey, an operative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” the GIS disclosed in a statement.
Officers of the GIS across the country, the statement points out, “are all at post protecting the borders of the country. No such directive has been given by the Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI). This allegation should therefore be disregarded by all well-meaning Ghanaians. It is the mandate of the GIS to protect and ensure that miscreants, including terrorists, do not enter the country to disturb the peace we are enjoying; and we will not relent on our responsibilities.”
Management of the GIS, the statement went on, “wishes to call on all to be mindful of utterances that will only go to disturb the peace, especially when such utterances are without merit and vexatious. As the lead agency in securing Ghana’s territorial integrity, we will discharge our duty to the best of our abilities.”
