Your Presence Here Gives Me Hope Mepe Chief Tells New Housing Minister

The Manklalo of the Mepe Traditional Area, Togbe Korsi Nego VI, has expressed gratitude to the new Minister for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah for renewing efforts to resettle flood victims following the Volta dam spillage.
The Chief’s commendation came during a groundbreaking ceremony in Mepe on Monday, March 25, 2024, for the construction of housing units to accommodate the affected flood victims.
“Your commitment since you became Minister for the housing sector and in making sure our people who are affected by the devastation have a decent place to live is something I must commend.
“You could have sat in Accra and received briefs but you took time to come and see things for yourself and we’re grateful for that,” he said.
The Mepe Chief highlighted the obstacles faced by his community and expressed optimism that the government's commitment to resettlement would alleviate the suffering of those affected.
The Minister thanked the Mepe Traditional Council for the kind words and pledged to lead efforts towards the proper resettlement of the victims.
He said efforts to resettle the victims have been in motion but for the validation of a needs assessment to provide essential data to inform the resettlement process.
He assured the Traditional Council of government’s commitment to addressing the plight of the displaced individuals calling for collaboration between the government and local communities to ensure the success of the resettlement efforts.
Togbe Korsi Nego VI urged the Minister to persist supporting the Mepe Traditional Area and reiterated the community's readiness to work hand in hand with the government to achieve lasting solutions for the displaced residents.
