Dr. John Kwabena Kwakye, Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Ghana has urged Ghanaians not to vote for leaders who will depend on foreign aid rather than relying on the natural resources of the country to generate revenue for development.
According to Dr. Kwakye, leaders who solely depend on foreign aid should not been given the chance to be leaders in Ghana.
On his X platform, Dr. Kwakye said, “We should reject political leaders who sustain that we are poor and have to go begging for Western aid or reparation. We cannot be poor when we have trillions of dollars of natural resource wealth underneath our feet.”
"Political leaders who cannot promise to use our trillions of dollars of natural resources wealth to end our self-inflicted poverty musty be rejected at the 2024 polls.’’
As Ghanaians prepare to go to the polls on December 7, 2024, the prerequisite for the various leaders and candidates, according to Dr. Kwakye, should be the ability to harness the natural resources to bring economic freedom and stability to all Ghanaians.
He stressed, “Our incoming political leaders must promise us that never again will they give away our mineral wealth cheaply to foreigners. Otherwise, we should reject them at the 2024 polls.”
